@American University School of International Service - Fall Speaker Series

CSINT Director of Research William Akoto will moderate the AU SIS Online and Executive Program’s Fall Speaker Series on November 7th, 2025. This is an online event from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

Overview

Featuring Dr. Nikita Shah, Senior Resident Fellow at the Atlantic Council, moderated by Dr. William Akoto, Assistant Professor at SIS.

Despite countless national strategies, technical innovations, and efforts to tackle our adversaries in cyberspace, we remain more insecure and vulnerable as ever in cyberspace. Moreover, we are confronted by a new class of adversary in cyberspace: China, whose whole-of-system approach and ability to exploit systemic weaknesses, raises fundamental questions as to how we respond. This talk will offer two halves of the same coin: it will discuss some of the defining characteristics of the threat posed by China in cyberspace, and how states and industry can shift the dial going forwards in response, in order to change our outcomes, and get towards a more secure, stable, and open cyberspace.
